Low Level Liquid Scintillation Counting of Radioactivity in Food Products
The production rate is 7.5 kg isotope C-14 yearly. The C-14 concentration stays approximately constant due to rapid mixing of the atmosphere, although the cosmic intensity is higher at the poles due to the deflection of charged cosmic particles along the magnetic field lines of the earth (corresponding to neutron intensities in the ratio 5:1 at the poles and the equator, respectively). Conseque...
متن کاملχ based alignment using cosmic muons
The CLEO-c data sample is dominated should find more precise number by cosmic muons that triggered the detector. Further, cosmic muons have a hard momentum spectra as well as containing tracks that are not going through the origin. Hence, the sample of cosmic rays would provide a valuable sample of tracks for doing alignment. This note describes such an attempt. Besides using cosmic muons a χ m...
متن کاملEnergy calibration of the NaI(Tl) calorimeter of the SND detector using cosmic muons
The general purpose spherical nonmagnetic detector ( SND ) is now taking data at VEPP-2M ee collider in BINP ( Novosibirsk ) in the centre of mass energy range of 0.2 ÷ 1.4 GeV. The energy calibration of the NaI(Tl) calorimeter of the SND detector with cosmic muons is described. Using this method, the energy resolution of 5.5 % (σ) for 500 MeV photons was achieved.
متن کاملStudies of the performance of the ATLAS detector using cosmic-ray muons
Muons from cosmic-ray interactions in the atmosphere provide a high-statistics source of particles that can be used to study the performance and calibration of the ATLAS detector. Cosmic-ray muons can penetrate to the cavern and deposit energy in all detector subsystems. Such events have played an important role in the commissioning of the detector since the start of the installation phase in 2...
متن کاملScintillation of Xenon doped Liquid Argon in the BACON Detector
The BACON liquid argon (LAr) scintillation detector prototype will be used to measure 1 2 intensity, promptness , and decay behavior for pure LAr and xenon (Xe) doped LAr mixtures. 3 The goal is to aid in planning, cost reduction, and improved detection for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) [6]. The scintillation of LAr is in the vacuum ultra-violet (VUV), requiring detectors to u...
